One of the most common challenges people share with me after a neurological illness, injury, or medical diagnosis is fatigue. This is more than just feeling tired. Fatigue can make it harder to think clearly, pay attention, remember things, and stay organized. When you’re fatigued, you might find it more difficult to follow conversations, find the right words, keep your thoughts on track or even complete your home tasks. This can sometimes lead to misunderstandings, increased errors, slower responses, difficulty making decisions and participating in everyday activities and conversations.
For people with neurological conditions or brain injuries, this kind of fatigue can be quite frustrating, also affecting confidence and lead to feeling isolated from others.
The good news? Speech-language therapy can help.
We work together to identify how fatigue affects you and find strategies that fit your life. These might include tools for organizing tasks, conserving energy, adjusting your environment, or pacing your day more effectively. With the right support and a "toolbox" of strategies in place, you can feel more in control, communicate more clearly, and stay connected.
